In the initial stage of ripening, the husk is strong and dense, which provides protection against pests and diseases. However, as the moisture release process begins, the husk opens at the end of the ear, gradually dries, becomes thinner and peels off along the entire length of the ear, creating a free space between the husk and the grain with optimal conditions for ventilation and rapid drying of the grain.
